My primary objective in writing this piece was to emphasize exactly that which you state in your comment: that mindfulness is a first step, but that there is so much more. The Buddhist roots of the mindfulness practice must be retained throughout the process, not lost to egocentric cultural motives. Only then does mindfulness remain powerful.
